ID Badges
The ID badges we take for granted every day have, in actuality, enormous differences. The security these cards offer is one arena in which difference is crucial. Some ID badges are extremely secure, with holograms, invisible encoding, tamper-resistant metal foil, and other added features. Think of a great ID badge the same way you might think of a dollar bill: American currency is designed with dozens of different security devices that make it hard to counterfeit. The same can be true with badges, ID cards and licenses.
A simple photo ID card is extremely easy to duplicate. A valid driver's license that is marked with codes, seals and overlays is next to impossible to duplicate. If security is a high priority for your firm, facility or organization, it is essential to make ID badges that stay unique .
ID Badges and Holograms
If security is a priority, holograms are an excellent option to add to your ID cards. A hologram is a flat, two dimensional image that has the appearance of being three dimensional. The type of hologram you choose will depend on the type of card you've printed, and the level of security you need. If you have any questions about which hologram is best for you, speak with a seasoned distributor who fully understands the pros and cons of each type of hologram.
Holograms can be added to the front of your card in different ways. First, they can be applied as laminates, sometimes known as overlaminates. If you use Fargo high definition ID cards, for instance, you can add a hologram by using a thin (.25 mil) thermal transfer overlaminate, a thicker (.6 mil or 1 mil) and more durable PolyGuard overlaminate, or a seal known as a HoloMark seal. If your Fargo card is printed using CardJet technology, you can use a patch overlaminate that is sensitive to pressure. And, if you choose, these patches can be personalized with your company's logo.
