For similar, more up-to-date technology, see the Fargo HDP600 CR100 printer, equipped with a laminator and magnetic stripe encoder.
The Fargo HDP820-LC color ID card printer equipped with a magnetic stripe encoder and laminating module is a complete card-printing package. While Fargo offers the flexibility to buy an HDP820 printer and order the laminating module later, this model comes ready to laminate for minimal installation headaches. Fargo's overlay can extend the life of non-laminated cards exponentially, protecting your investment so that you get the most mileage out of your magnetic stripe cards. You may also opt to use laminates with standard or custom holographic images for additional security.
Unlike traditional card printers, which print directly onto the plastic card, Fargo's high definition printing system (all "HDP" printers use this method) prints images onto the underside of special film, which the printer bonds to the plastic card using heat and pressure. Because the printing occurs on the film and not the card itself, if anyone tries to peel the film off the card to alter it, the image will be destroyed. It also guarantees over-the-edge printing to prevent unattractive white borders. This system makes the Fargo HDP820-LC ideal for high-security organizations, and the lamination unit adds an additional layer of protection against forgery.
